Ace Eppard, the beautiful 6-year-old German Shorthair boy of Stevye and Nate Eppard of Elwood, Indiana, passed over the Rainbow Bridge on Sunday, February 23, 2025. Ace was born in 2019 and became part of the Eppard family on Wednesday, November 6th, 2024. Ace was a lucky boy; Stevye and Nate rescued him after their friend and local breeder, Kathy, unexpectedly passed away. Stevye and Nate and a few other people worked diligently together to find homes for the twenty-eight dogs who suddenly needed to be cared for. Stevye and Nate decided Ace would make a wonderful addition to their family, and he absolutely did. Ace found a loving home with the Eppard family, and in return, the Eppard family gained an abundance of sweetness and unconditional love in return. According to an article written by Alyssa Anderson, WebMD; German Shorthaired Pointers are social and playful dogs. German shorthaired pointers are a loyal and loving breed in the class of dogs known as the sporting group. They make a great addition to any family, even if you have kids and other pets. They were bred to be adaptable hunters. They’re intelligent and full of energy. Ace was exactly the classic description of his breed. Stevye described Ace’s personality as “very silly,” continuing, “He walked like Bigfoot and always made funny faces.” Ace loved spending time outdoors, going pheasant hunting, and hanging out with his fur sister Molly, who he adored. He enjoyed his daily 30-minute spin sessions with Molly. Stevye shared that they referred to it as getting their “steps in.” Ace loved bath time; Stevye jokingly relayed, “He would sleep in the bathtub if we let him.” Ace’s favorite treats were the Milk-Bone Peanut Buttery Bites and his favorite toy was his stuffed plush duck. One of Ace’s favorite activities was riding in the car with his family. He always knew he was usually headed to one of his favorite destinations, to the pet bathing station or to go pick up some of his favorite dog treats or food. Ace’s official name, recorded and registered with the American Kennel Club, was “Ace of Diamonds,” which was important because it served as his official documentation of his purebred lineage to trace his ancestry. His family also referred to him by the nickname of “Acey Boy.” Ace was close with his previous owners, Dick and Kathy. Once moving to his new home, he developed a special bond with Nate. Stevye shared her favorite memories of time spent with Ace: “We had so many in a short time, probably Christmas when he greeted our family with love and snuggles with his silly personality.” Although their time with Ace was limited, his sweet memory will last forever. In addition to Stevye and Nate, mourning the loss of Ace are Audrie and Julun Staggs and his previous owner, Dick. Also sadly missing Ace is beloved fur sister, Molly B. Good, and his son, puppy, Bud. Ace is preceded in death by Kathy, who welcomed Ace on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge. Arrangements have been entrusted to Always & Furever In Our Hearts Pet Cremation in association with Liming Family Funeral Home, located in Shirley, Indiana. We are honored to serve the family of Ace Eppard.
