Bear Benfer Obituary

Bear Benfer, a beautiful, sweet 11-year-old Saint Bernard-Rottweiler-Wolf Mix from Matthews, Indiana, of Joe Benfer, passed over the Rainbow Bridge on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Bear was fortunate enough to be rescued and adopted by the Benfer family on February 12, 2020, when he was five years old. Bear found his forever home. Bear liked attention and would gently nudge you to get you to pet him. Bear would get excited when someone would grab a brush and brush him. Just like when Bear was being scratched and petted, if you found a good spot, his back leg would start kicking, and he would feel relaxed and content. Bear was a very protective and loving dog towards his family. He could sense if someone was upset. If he saw people arguing, he would place himself between them and try to get them to calm down. Bear was a peacekeeper, and he loved everyone around him. He loved children, especially Addison, Benji and Oliver. Bear was like their big teddy bear. He would let them crawl on him, cuddle up, and fall asleep on him. If you did happen to fall asleep around Bear, he would fart to wake you up out of a dead sleep, and then he would look you in the eyes, like he was innocent. Bear loved to go on car rides and enjoyed being outside with his family. He loved playing in the rain and the snow, but he was afraid of running water and would try to stay away from it. Bear was a big baby and didn’t realize his size. He thought it was fun to try to run at you and knock you down. A lot of people were afraid of Bear because of how big he was, but once they got to know him, they realized he was a gentle giant. If you wanted to be good friends with Bear, all you needed was a big bag of beef jerky, and he would be your pal for life. Bear’s fur sibling, Carlie Ann, was his best friend. Bear was very mothering to Carlie Ann and would always lay on the floor to play with Carlie because he was bigger than her and didn’t want to hurt her. Bear was a sweet soul and will be sadly missed. In addition to Bear’s human dad, Joe, mourning the loss of Bear, are his human family: Sister Addison Benfer, Aunt Nicci Benfer, Aunt Cara Springer, Aunt Emily Wright, Uncle Dom Sisemore, Uncle Austin Kistler, Uncle Lane Auld, Nephews, Benji and Oliver Dürscher, Grandma Patricia Lesh, and his fur sibling and best friend, Carlie Ann, Arrangements have been entrusted to Always & Furever In Our Hearts Pet Cremation in association with Liming Family Funeral Home, located in Shirley, Indiana. We are honored to serve the family of Bear Benfer.
