Bella Durand, a beautiful 18-year-old Torbie lady of Courtney Durand and Mike Devlin from Yorktown, Indiana, passed over the Rainbow Bridge on Tuesday, March 24, 2026.
Bella was born in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. She was approximately a year old when she found her forever home after Courtney adopted her in 2009.
Courtney shared, “The thing I loved most was her vocal personality. She was “very vocal, always meowing. She acted like a kitten up until her last month of life. She loved nibbling on my wet hair after I got out of the shower and would just curl up on my shoulder, nipping at my hair.” Courtney shared she had an “obsession with my wet hair.”
Bella fits the personality traits of her torbie breed; according to Cats.com, “The term “torbie” refers to a pattern, not a breed. This interesting coat type can appear in many breeds and mixed breeds. Any breed that comes in the tabby or tortoiseshell patterns can also come in the torbie pattern. Some cat breeds that can come in torbie include the American Shorthair, British Shorthair, Cornish Rex, and Maine Coon. Torbie cats are almost always female.
Tortoiseshell cats are somewhat rare, but torbies are even rarer. Torbie Cats Have Sassy Attitudes. Like tortoiseshell cats, torbie cats have a reputation for being feisty feline divas. In tortoiseshell, this tendency even has a name: tortitude. Since torbies are part tortoiseshell, it makes sense that some torbies display a similar temperament. Torbie cats are special because their fur mixes the stripes of tabby cats with the fiery patches of tortoiseshell cats, creating a unique blend of colors that’s hard to find elsewhere. While tabby and tortoiseshell patterns are beautiful on their own, they become even more striking when they come together in torbie cats, and each individual torbie has a slightly different pattern.
Courtney recalled her favorite memories of her time with Bella. was probably all the times we played with her little snoopy dog. She would attack it like crazy then curl up with it to sleep.”
Like most cats, Bella hated getting a bath, but she also hated being brushed as well. And she did not care for car rides. She traveled a lot, and according to Courtney, "She hated the car." Especially when we moved from Louisiana to Indiana. She either meowed the whole time or slept.”
Courtney felt what Bella valued the most in life was “probably cuddling in bed, with me and her dad.”
Courtney shared Bella “loved cat treats but also would eat pieces of chicken or whatever random people food we allowed her.”
Courtney said Bella’s only nickname was really "floofy."
Courtney responded as to who her favorite humans were: “If not me, then my boyfriend. She had a rough start of her life with men, and he was the first man she took to immediately. He was in her life for 8 of her 17 years, and she loved him. My daughter is 4 years old, and it took her until 6 months ago to be comfortable enough with my daughter to curl up with her and let my daughter pet and play with her.”
Courtney shared that her favorite toy was her “little stuffed snoopy dog.”
Bella was such a big part of the family and loved so very much and will be missed.
In addition to Courtney and Mike mourning the loss of Bella is her human sibling, Ella.
Bella was met crossing the Rainbow Bridge by MJ, her cat brother who preceded her in death.
