Candy Summerlot, age 15, of Marion, Indiana, the Chihuahua-Yorkie girl of Charles and Crystal Summerlot, passed over the Rainbow Bridge on Friday, March 20, 2026.
Candy was born in 2011 in Bremen, Indiana. Candy found her forever home with the Summerlot family in 2013, when she was adopted.
One thing the family loved about Candy was, “She was quite feisty with the other dogs but very loving towards her human family.”
The family shared their favorite memory of Candy: “She would get a running start from across the bed and headbutt another dog off of the bed. That's how her mom gave her the nickname “My Little Buffalo.”
In addition to that nickname, Candy also gained the nickname of "Candy Crush” by her youngest human sibling and “Candy Cane."
Charles described her personality as "very sweet with a touch of spice. She made us laugh quite often.” Charles also shared, “She was ticklish everywhere. No matter where we would pet her, it was her ticklish spot.”
Charles relayed, “She didn't really play with toys, although she really loved her people and her fluffy blankets.”
Candy was fine going on car rides with her family as long as she had the comfort of being held in their arms.
She loved getting treats of boiled shredded chicken in the evening.
Charles shared that when it came to bath time, Candy “would try and hide, but once in the bath, she didn't mind it.”
What Candy’s family felt she valued in life the most “was her mom, even though she would have been lost without any of her human family." According to Charles, “She was never far from her mom's side.”
The entire Summerlot family is devastated by the loss of their sweet girl. Candy touched so many hearts and left so many memories during her 15 years as a member of the family. In addition to her human parents, Charles and Crystal Summerlot, mourning her loss are human siblings AshLee, Brittany, Jonathon, Alexander, Natalee, Jeremiah, and Brian.
Candy is preceded in death by Meg, who crossed over on March 16, 2026, and is waiting to greet Candy on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Always & Furever In Our Hearts Pet Cremation in association with Liming Family Funeral Home, located in Shirley, Indiana.
