Charlie May Shockley Obituary

Charlie May Shockley, the precious Corgi-Chihuahua mix girl of Selena Shockley from Greenwood, Indiana, passed over the Rainbow Bridge on Thursday, June 19, 2025.

Charlie May was born in Alabama. She was sadly determined to have been abandoned after being found wandering the streets alone. Charlie May was rescued by Selena in 2017 when she was around six years old, and Selena gave her a loving home.

Not much history was known about Charlie May, but Selena celebrated her birthday every May.

Charlie May was a huge part of Selena’s life. She was her constant companion and her best friend. Selena described Charlie May’s personality as “charming” and said that she was really great with everyone but a little standoffish with men. She was not mean, just more cautious around them.

Charlie May was a typical pretty girl; she liked her baths and didn’t mind being groomed. She loved splashing and playing in the water as long as it wasn’t too deep. She would only go as deep as her tummy. Charlie May had such a loving personality and was an absolutely amazing girl. Selena shared that what she loved about Charlie May was pretty much everything, with the exception of her sleeping habits. Selena shared that Charlie May snored very loudly when she was really sleepy. One of Charlie May’s favorite things to do was to go on car rides with Selena. Whether she was gazing out of the window, or sitting upon Selena’s lap, or relaxing in the back seat when it was time to run errands or just go on a drive, Charlie May was always ready to go. Charlie May enjoyed playing with her squeaky toys and munching on any snacks, but she especially liked her duck jerky. Selena shared that her favorite memory of Charlie May was when she did “the cutest thing” when she came home from work or the store. Charlie May would be so excited to see her she would greet her with little whimpers. She would jump up and down, “going a mile a minute.” Selena would have to get down to her level so she could give her kisses; if she didn't, she wouldn't stop whimpering and jumping until she got her attention for those kisses. Selena advised she was the only person she would do that to.

Selena felt what Charlie May valued most in her life was the love she felt for her. Selena relayed that “she was my shadow, always under my feet, my protector. Selena shared that Charlie May didn’t like people getting too close to her; if they did, Charlie May would step in between the person and Selena and give them a little warning growl to back away from her mama. Charlie May, often lovingly referred to as “Diva” and “May, May,” had a big heart and brought happiness and joy to Selena’s life for nearly 9 years. She will forever remain in her heart. In addition to Selena, mourning the loss of Charlie May is her grandmother, Lillian and her brother, Hank. Arrangements have been entrusted to Always & Furever In Our Hearts Pet Cremation in association with Liming Family Funeral Home, located in Shirley, Indiana. We are honored to serve the family of Charlie May Shockley.
