Chico Raney of Wilkinson, Indiana, beloved furbaby of Starla Parks, Eric Raney, and Milo Raney, unexpectedly crossed over the Rainbow Bridge on Tuesday, April 21, 2026.
Chico luckily found his way to the right family on Sunday, September 26, 2021. Starla shared, “He found us; he was running through a field, we stopped to help, he jumped in the car, and that was it. We looked for his owners but had no luck finding them, so he then adopted us.”
Chico’s personality was described as “a big baby, very playful, an overgrown puppy that thought he could fit in laps, and loved his toys."
One of the family’s fondest memories was having Chico practice jumping over objects. “He made it over 2 1/2 feet tall. He loved to make people happy and be told he was a good boy.”
Chico was not a fan of bath time, but he liked being brushed; his family even vacuumed him.
Chico liked to go on car rides, his family shared, but he thought he belonged in the driver's seat. He LOVED going for walks and adventures. If you even moved his halter, he would go crazy; he would put it on himself because he was so excited to go outside.
What Chico valued in life was attention and family. He would do anything for love.
His family shared, “He was a big puppy; he liked to tug with toys, and he liked to carry plastic bottles in his mouth" (we were teaching him to throw them away). But he did not like to give you his toys; he just liked to show and play. He would talk to you and be very vocal (not bark) when he was very playful.”
Chico’s favorite treats were ice, Reddi-wip whipped cream and vegetables according to his family. "You couldn't go to the freezer without him being at your feet (actually, you couldn't go anywhere without him being at your feet) Reddi-wip—he would come running when he heard the can and vegetables - it didn't matter what vegetable it was; he thought he should get some of all of them!”
The one thing his family loved about Chico was “his personality"; he could be such a dummy, yet a sweetheart. He loved everyone and all the animals.” Having said that, he shared a special relationship with his human, Milo, who he adored. They were always together, and Milo was his person.
Chico, who also went by the nicknames of "Cheeks," “Chico Bean," “Cheeky Bastard," “Little Vegetarian," and “Chicken Shit," was a character. His family recalled, “It was funny that he was afraid of balloons and plastic bags; he was just a silly little boy who didn't know his size, so he always tried to lie on laps or squeeze into places he didn't belong." He knew no boundaries with his tongue; he would lick toes, armpits, and faces; it didn't matter. He loved love!”
Sweet Chico will be sadly missed but will forever remain in the hearts of his family and all who knew him. Left to mourn the sudden loss of Chico are his human family, Starla, Eric, and Milo, and his fur siblings Nova (sister dog), Eddie (brother cat), and Stink (favorite raccoon).
