Dennis Kay Denney, age 69, of Shirley, Indiana, passed away surrounded by his loved ones on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at 5:30 am. Dennis was born on Friday, July the 20th, in 1956, in New Castle, Indiana, to the late Willard E. and Mildred J. (Piercy) Denney.
Dennis graduated from New Castle High School in 1974 and immediately after graduation enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Dennis gave four years of his life serving our country. During his service in the Marines, he gained many close friends. After service, Dennis worked in the construction industry for many years and ultimately owned his own business. It was during this time he met the love of his life, Brenda Perrodin, from Louisiana.
On Saturday, November 10, 1984, he married his sweetheart, Brenda, and this past November they celebrated 41 years together. Brenda and Dennis lived together in Florida, and they eventually settled down in Shirley, Indiana.
Dennis was very active in the town and was a member of the town council for over twenty years. He even was a member this year until his health prevented him from continuing to serve. He was very dedicated to making a difference in his county and in his community. Dennis didn’t know a stranger and was well known in the community as being someone who would “help out whoever needed it.”
Dennis enjoyed boating, camping, and fishing, although he wasn’t keen on cleaning his own fish, and he would let Brenda do that.
Dennis enjoyed many things in his life. He loved going on rides with Brenda on his Harley Davidson motorcycles and made many long trips from Tennessee to Florida. He loved traveling to the Southern States for vacationing, especially going to visit his mother-in-law in Louisiana to enjoy some delicious Cajun cuisine. What Dennis enjoyed eating more than anything was Brenda’s home-cooked meals. Breakfast was his favorite meal of the day, and Dennis pretty much loved all sweets.
Dennis enjoyed playing Euchre with friends. He and Brenda played Rook with his parents years ago.
Dennis liked watching all kinds of television shows, but his favorite was the classic “Star Trek.” He enjoyed rock and roll music. Dennis was an animal lover. He adored his Golden Retriever mix, “Remington,” and Border Collie mix, “Susie Q.”
The family wanted to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Heartland Hospice of Greenwood for the compassionate care, comfort, and dignity that they provided to Dennis during the last days of his life. Also their deepest gratitude to Buzz Author of Idaho, and Mark and Jeanine Thompson of Missouri for staying with Dennis during his final days.
Dennis will be always loved, never forgotten, and forever missed.
Dennis is survived by his loving wife, Brenda. Also mourning the loss of Dennis is his sister, Kathy (John) Rogers; nephew, John David; niece, Sydney Morris; and numerous other nieces, nephews, and cousins. Dennis is also survived by his beloved fur babies Remington and Suzie Q.
In accordance with Dennis’ wishes, there will be no service at this time, cremation has been accorded. The family is planning a celebration of life at a later date.
