Dixie King, of Fortville, Indiana, beloved Bulldog of Casey and Debbie King, passed over the Rainbow Bridge in the early morning hours of Sunday, June 2, 2024. Dixie was born in 2016 in an Amish Puppy Mill, where puppies and dogs are considered livestock and viewed no differently than the chickens or pigs on their farms. If they don’t produce income, they don’t live, and they spend their lives in cramped, awful conditions. Such was the beginning of life for Dixie. She spent the first one and a half years of her life living in a cramped chicken coop, in the dark, and in horrific conditions. Two attempts were made to breed her, with her losing one of her pups. Dixie had untreated Cherry Eye masses in her eyes. A decision was made at the farm that she was ”worthless” and was not going to make them a profit.
But two people stepped into Dixie’s life and saw a little girl who wasn’t worthless. They knew she needed lots of care and love.
Casey and Debbie were just the experienced pet owners to give Dixie the love, patience, and care that she so desperately needed. They tried to help Dixie overcome the fear of the “lights being turned on” and show her the freedom of being allowed to go outside to enjoy her own yard. She was so skittish that Casey and Debbie thought that maybe getting her a “dog brother” to show her the ropes would help Dixie relax and be less fearful. Dixie was introduced to “Wilson” and became Wilson’s “wingman” to alert Casey and Debbie of any incoming intruders or anyone pulling into their driveway. Although Dixie enjoyed eating her Mini Marrobone treats, she had a difficult time eating because of her tooth loss from her past poor living conditions. Dixie was lovingly spoon-fed by Debbie every day.
In addition to Casey and Debbie, Dixie is survived by her dog brother, Wilson, and cat siblings, Emilio, Pearl, and Boots. Dixie is also survived by her additional human family, including her sister, Dustie Lynn King Hedrick.
brother Bill, sister-in-law Kristy, and their children, Adalyn, Eleanor, Ruby, and Liam. Dixie is preceded in death by her cat brother, Johnson.
Thanks to the love and care she received from Casey and Debbie, Dixie celebrated six and a half years of the good life. She was loved beyond measure and will be greatly missed.
