Elvis O’Toole, a beautiful, sweet Tortoise, lop-eared rabbit from New Castle, Indiana, crossed over the Rainbow Bridge on Saturday, September 7, 2024, following an acute illness. Elvis had just returned from a trip with his mom and dad from New Jersey and upon returning fell ill, and unfortunately his health rapidly deteriorated.
Elvis’ beginning in this world was bleak. On a warm summer day in 2020, Siara and John O’Toole entered the Value Pets store in Vorhees, New Jersey. Once inside, they spotted an adorable little bunny, and together they made the decision that they were going to rescue this baby from certain death. This precious little bunny was a feeder rabbit at the store and was destined to become a meal for some hungry animal. Siara and John were experienced rabbit owners and took one look at this little guy and made a life changing decision for this boy. Siara, being a huge Elvis fan, thought the name was perfect for this little heartbreaker. Elvis was welcomed into their home and became a beloved part of the O’Toole family. Elvis enjoyed the freedom he had to roam the halls of his new home, but what he loved even more was being able to play in the yard outside and nibble on the blades of grass and flowers in the sunshine when it was cage cleaning time. Although they had owned many other rabbits before, Elvis was the biggest rabbit they ever had. Elvis was a very healthy boy. He enjoyed eating all of his fruits and vegetables, especially his favorites, bananas, apples, and green peppers. He had the very best temperament. Elvis was a good boy, super relaxed and happy. He would play with his toys, let you pet him whenever, mess with his ears, and file his nails down without any incident. Elvis was a “chewer” of plastic, though, and they had to keep an eye on him. Once he nearly wiped out their internet by getting to the Ethernet cable, causing them to make sure all the wires were strategically protected and covered from that day forward. Elvis was very independent, and Siara shared that she knew from the way he looked at her at times that he was judging her, wondering, “What in the world are you doing now, mom?” Elvis had a great relationship with his fur brother, cat, Killian. They played together constantly and surprised Siara and John one day when the pals both ended up at the top of the stairs to the second floor of their home. Elvis was the father of two beautiful litters of bunnies along with mother rabbit, Jesse. Siara and John made sure that they found loving homes for all the little ones, ensuring their fate was not as their father’s once was. Elvis was welcomed across the Rainbow Bridge by fur rabbit brother, Leo, who Preceded him in death.
Elvis was loved immensely. This sweet boy filled their hearts with so much joy. Siara, John, and fur sibling Killian are devastated by the loss of Elvis, but his sweet spirit and happy memories will remain forever in their hearts.
