Emma Newbold of Rushville, Indiana, the sixteen-year-old chihuahua-terrier girl of Krista Newbold, crossed over the Rainbow Bridge on Wednesday, May 20, 2026.
Emma was born on Monday, August 3, 2009. Krista adopted Emma when she was only eight weeks old. She found Emma on an online ad and drove over two hours to pick her up. Krista shared, “She was smaller than a Coke can."
One thing Krista loved about Emma was that "she was always waiting on me and so excited to see me. Every single time. I was her favorite human.”
When asked what Krista’s favorite memory was of her time with Emma, she was unable to decide, relaying, “Over 16 years, there are so many good memories; I can't pick just one."
“Emma was not always friendly, but if she loved you, she loved you forever. She was very spunky and would stand up to any animal or human to protect me.” According to Krista, regarding her personality.
Krista shared “Her favorite thing was just sitting on my lap.”
Krista also relayed, “She loved going for car rides and would sit in the seat. She was good on car rides.”
Emma's favorite treats were the peanut butter-flavored dog treats.
What she valued most in life was Krista. Krista shared, “She was extremely loyal and protective of me. She knew I would keep her safe and happy.” Krista was her favorite "object"; as long as Krista was around, she was happy. Krista recalled, “She would growl at anyone who kissed me. I would have to hold onto her so she wouldn't try to bite.”
She loved Krista so much she held off having her puppies until Krista got home. Krista recalled, “She actually waited on me to get home to have puppies. She was in labor all day, and the kids said she paced by the door. When I got home, we went to get the puppy box, and within 10 minutes she started delivering her puppies.”
Emma’s actual name was “Emerald Sue," but she went by the nicknames of Sissy, Sues, and, of course, “Emma." Emma brought so much happiness and joy to the entire family, who are grieving her immensely. Krista relayed, “She was a good dog. Over 16 years she loved unconditionally. I tried to make sure she had a good life.”
Emma will be forever missed, but she will be lovingly remembered and always remain in their hearts. In addition to Krista, mourning the loss of Emma are her human siblings, Kylie Pratt and Kelsay Blevins, and fur friends, Prince and King.
