Eva Hernandez of New Palestine, Indiana, an 11-year-old Pitbull Mix girl of Andrea and Pablo Hernandez, crossed over the Rainbow Bridge on Wednesday, September 18, 2024. Eva was just a pup, approximately 9 months old, when she was rescued and adopted on Valentine's Day, Friday, February 14, 2014, from the Indianapolis Animal Care and Control Services by Andrea and Pablo. What a sweet little Valentine Eva turned out to be. Eva had a big, loving heart, and she loved each and every one of the Hernandez family members. Eva was a love bug, a snuggler. If you were an overnight guest at the Hernandez home and you didn’t shut your door at bedtime, you would be graced with the sweet snuggles of Eva. Eva enjoyed soft fuzzy blankets and curling up in front of the fireplace. If you weren’t careful, Eva would steal your blankets too. Speaking of stealing, Eva was not only a lover of her humans but also a lover of all her humans’ foods as well and was known to steal unattended snacks. Her family jokingly recalled, “We got a camera to try and see who was stealing bread off the counter. I thought for sure it was my dog Minnie, but it turned out Eva was our thief. Our first day of having the camera, we were at breakfast and saw Eva steal a 3-pound bag of almonds off the table. I tried to yell at her to stop through the camera, but she just proceeded to rip the bag open and chomp them. I rushed home as the restaurant was close, watching her on camera the whole time. When I got in the driveway, she heard me and pranced over to the door to greet me. When I came in, I told her, "I caught you!" And she bolted out the pet door.” Eva also took things out of boxes looking for treats. She once opened a box that ended up having a frying pan in it. She was also good at opening boxes from Chewy. Besides being a sneaky snacker, one of Eva’s favorite things to do was to go on a car ride with her family, her head resting on the console beside them. She especially liked it when the road trip ended up at one of the state parks. Eva absolutely did not like bath time. Eva was loyal and smart, and even though she was a pro at stealing snacks, she was still the very most obedient dog in the history of all of the Hernandez family dogs. Eva was taught to be so obedient by her human sibling, Abe. Abe and Eva grew up together, and they had a special bond. Eva was extremely close to Abe; she slept in his bed until he became an adult and moved out on his own. Abe would have taken Eva with him had it not been for the rest of the family and her fur siblings missing Eva.
Eva, who was also known to her family as “Pinky Pink and Pinky Dink,” was a big old sweet baby who had an even bigger love for her family. The Hernandez family is deeply saddened by the loss of their beloved Eva. She will forever remain in their hearts. In addition to Andrea and Pablo, whom Eva adored, mourning the loss of Eva are her human siblings, Anthony and Abe, her cat brother Tito, her older dog sister Ruby, and her younger dog sisters Minnie and Cookie. Eva also had her niece and nephew dogs, Vega, Copper, and Jameson (Jimmy Tots). Arrangements have been entrusted to Always & Furever In Our Hearts Pet Cremation in association with Liming Family Funeral Home, located in Shirley, Indiana. We are honored to serve the family of Eva Hernandez.
