Gracie Griffiths, of Marion, Indiana, and Domestic Short-Hair Cat, of Zanna and Shane Griffiths, crossed over the Rainbow Bridge at 3:15 a.m. on Sunday, December 8, 2024. Gracie was approximately 13 ½ years old. Not much about Gracie’s past life is known aside from the fact that she lived in horrific conditions and was severely abused. Gracie was rescued by The Huntington County Humane Society. What is known about Gracie’s past is that she lived most of her life in a small cage. Gracie arrived at The Humane Society with a broken hip and collarbone. She was emaciated and covered in fleas. Gracie was an older girl in a shelter surrounded by other younger and healthier kittens and puppies, making her chances of finding a home more difficult. Luckily for Gracie, Zanna and Shane found Gracie in May of 2023 at The Huntington County Humane Society. They did not see a broken old girl but a sweet soul who needed someone to give her a chance to find out what unconditional love felt like. Zanna and Shane adopted Gracie, and in the short time she was with them, she was loved immensely. Gracie was cautious but soon became very open and loving with her family. Gracie learned that she would never have to step foot in a cage again. She got the chance to feel grass on her little toes and roll around in it happily. Gracie had the joy of not only being free from fleas but also being groomed. Gracie loved the hair dryer after having a bath. She loved being stroked as well, especially on the left side of her face. Gracie didn’t have to worry about where she was going to get her next meal. She now had the luxury of not only being fed on a regular basis but also enjoying her favorite Temptations cat treats. Gracie got lots of cuddles and hugs. She gained the nickname “Cuddlebugs” from her family. Gracie would wait patiently by Zanna’s feet for her to be picked up and cuddled. Gracie couldn’t wait until Zanna came home from work each day so she could be by her favorite person and at her favorite place, on the couch, sitting across Zanna’s neck and shoulders, where she would purr happily.
Gracie loved her entire family but had a special bond with Zanna. If Gracie was being held by another family member and handed over to Zanna, Gracie would lunge towards Zanna, nearly leaping into her arms. Though Gracie’s time was short with the Griffiths, she was finally able to experience the care and compassion that she always deserved. Gracie will be sadly missed by Zanna and Shane, who showed this girl what kindness and love truly meant. Also mourning her loss are her human siblings, Vanessa and Joel; her feline siblings, Chloe and Finn; and her canine sibling, who also acted as her bodyguard, Julian. Julian watched out for Gracie when the other kitties were being mischievous towards her.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Always & Furever In Our Hearts Pet Cremation in association with Liming Family Funeral Home, located in Shirley, Indiana. We are honored to serve the family of Gracie Griffiths.
