Kirklin James Moon, beautiful, sweet Rottweiler boy of Kiara and Kaizen Moon, passed over the Rainbow Bridge on Thursday, April 24, 2025, in Rushville, Indiana.
Kaizen was looking for the perfect dog. They spent two hours walking around the shelter and were just about to leave and try to come back at another time. The staff brought this handsome boy in, who was just released from his stray hold status. They had no history on him, no idea at all where he came from. As soon as Kaizen saw him, it was love at first sight. They immediately applied to meet with him. When Kaizen picked up a ball in the play yard, he was focused only on them; he sat on their foot, leaned into their leg, and let them pet him. He happily accepted their love and affection. Within an hour he was headed home with Kaizen. Kirklin officially became a part of the Moon family on Sunday, August 18, 2019. The staff at the Indianapolis Animal Care Services estimated that he was approximately 3 to 3 ½ years old at that time.
Kaizen shared that Kirklin loved everyone he ever met and had the best temperament ever. Kirklin had the sweetest, goofiest, most loving personality. He was a smart and social boy who always wanted to be with his people. He would especially like to be next to whoever would rub his belly or scratch his butt, especially if he really liked you. Kirklin was a gentle giant; he didn’t realize his size; he would sit in your lap if you let him.
According to Kaizen, the only thing Kirklin loved more than people was food, “any kind of food, as he was not picky at all and would start drooling the second he smelled any. He was always extremely respectful of people eating, but if you left him alone with anything edible, you were asking to lose it!” Continuing, “One of the weirdest things he ate was a bunch of birdseed, which he couldn’t digest, so it was just falling out of him for a whole day.”
Kirklin loved to go on car rides with his family. Kaizen shared that, on his final day, prior to crossing the Rainbow Bridge, his fur siblings spent time to say their goodbyes and give him love. His little dog sister, who knew him the longest, Kimber, gave him kisses. Then, he went for a car ride to enjoy his favorite treats of cheeseburgers, french fries, and chicken nuggets.
Kaizen relayed that “Kirklin’s perfect day would include a tennis ball and the river; he loved to chase his ball into the river, and in his prime he could play fetch for hours. He truly thought he was still a puppy all the way up until his last day.”
Kirklin was a big, sweet, furry bundle of love and brought so much happiness to Moon's home. Kiara and Kaizen are absolutely devastated by the loss of their beloved boy. Kaizen and Kirklin were best friends. According to his family, “Kaz is the only person that Kirk would truly listen to; everyone else he had selective hearing with.” Kirklin will also be sadly missed by his fur siblings, Kimber, Kami, Mako, and Cordelia. Kirklin will forever remain in their hearts.
