Lonnie Hensley

Lonnie Hensley, age 87, of Indianapolis, Indiana went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, August 29, 2021 at Life's Journey in Avon, Indiana, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born May 30, 1934 in Harlan, Kentucky one of seven children to Clara and George Hensley.
In addition to his parents, Lonnie is preceded in death by his sisters; Ludie (Hensley) Shope and Mary (Hensley) Smith, brothers; Wright Hensley, Baylor Hensley and Waverly Hensley.
Lonnie worked long and hard starting his  employment in a Lumber Mill and eventually retiring from Aero Fabrication as a Machinist. Lonnie stressed to his children and grandchildren the importance of staying in school and getting a good education, it meant so much to him.
Lonnie's first passion was serving God and always having him first in his life. He believed in walking the path with the Lord. When the church had revival he would be there until late in the evening. He loved being in the presence of God and with God's people. Lonnie loved the outdoors and nature.  He enjoyed hunting rabbits, squirrels and groundhogs but didn't care for hunting deer because it was not "enough action" for him. He also enjoyed fishing and he collected guns and knives and could be found spending time sharpening his knives.  He also spent his time gardening.
Lonnie married his loving wife, who survives, Cora (Robertson) Hensley in Fort Gay, West Virginia on November 3, 1954, they were married 66 years.
In addition to his wife Cora, he is survived by his children; daughter, Karen Graham and son, Granvel (Debbie) Hensley, his brothers; Olan Hensley and Jerry Hensley, grandchildren; Katrina (Lynette) Whitaker, Eric (Christina) Graham, Kevin Graham, Christopher Graham and Anya (Joey) Jewell, great-grandchildren; Blake Graham,  Olivia Graham and Christian Graham. Lonnie is also survived by a host of other family members and friends.
Lonnie will sadly be missed by all who knew and loved him. A special thanks to  Eric and Christina who went above and beyond as his caregivers.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 from 5pm-6pm with Funeral Service to follow at 6pm at the House of Prayer Tabernacle Church located at 5501 S Linwood Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46237.
The service will be officiated by Pastor Milton Smith.  The staff of Liming Family Funeral Home are honored to serve the family of Lonnie Hensley.
