Lyrik Barton Obituary

Lyrik Barton, beautiful, sweet Shar Pei/Lab mix boy of the Barton family, passed over the Rainbow Bridge on Saturday, April 26, 2025, in Muncie, Indiana.

Lyrik became a part of a loving family after he was adopted from The Muncie Animal Rescue Fund (ARF) around Christmas in 2013. ARF estimated that Lyrik was born in 2011, and he was about 1 1/2 to 2 years old at that time.

Lyrik was a gentle, loving soul. His family described Lyrik’s personality as “a chill dog and always happy. He loved people and loved giving kisses. When he got pets, he would shake his butt to let you know he liked it. He was very accepting of any other animal and welcomed all of them into his home as if he had known them forever.

Dylan shared his favorite memory of his sweet Lyrik: “He would always curl up behind my legs to sleep when he was younger. I can't remember a time when I woke up without him there with me.”

Lyrik loved spending time outdoors. He enjoyed getting dirty and playing in the mud, but he was not a fan of the bath that came next.

Lyrik loved getting fancy collars and relaxing and lying in his bed.

Dylan shared one of his favorite stories about Lyrik: “When my best friend and I went to get dinner, I promised my friend that he would not touch our food while we went to a gas station to get drinks. When we returned, he had perfectly opened one of my friends' burritos as if it was done by a human. He ate it while leaving everything of mine alone. He was very proud of himself!” Lyrik loved going on car rides with his family, his head hanging out of the window and his fur blowing in the wind, smelling all of the smells around him. He especially looked forward to the trips that included his delicious pup cup treats. Although Lyrik loved going for car rides to get a pup cup and sneaking a friend’s burrito when he got the chance, his favorite treat was pig ears. He thought those were the best. Dylan shared the one thing he loved most about Lyrik was that Lyrik was  “always happy to see me and made the hard times easier,” continuing that Lyrik “was a very resilient dog.” And in return, what he felt Lyrik valued the most in life was “his family and knowing he was a part of a pack that loved him! He was happy to belong.”

Lyrik was also lovingly known as “Leer Leer,” ” Lyrik Dean,” “Leer Jet,” and “Good Boy” by his family. He loved spending time with his entire family, especially with his human grandma, Sandy Barton. Dylan shared that Lyrik loved everyone in the family, but he was “grandma's boy through and through, and he loved getting attention.

Lyrik brought so much happiness to the Barton home, and the family is heartbroken by the loss of their beloved Lyrik. His gentle and sweet personality will forever be missed but never forgotten.

Mourning the loss of Lyrik is his human grandmother, Sandy Barton; human parents, Dylan Barton and Melissa Westfall; human aunt, Dena Barton; and pet siblings Bear, Oliver, Allis, Honeybee, Case, and Alex. Lyrik is preceded in death by his human grandfather, Gary Barton, and his fur sibling, Boo.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Always & Furever In Our Hearts Pet Cremation in association with Liming Family Funeral Home, located in Shirley, Indiana. We are honored to serve the family of Lyrik Barton.
