Mango McCollough Obituary

Mango Mando McCollough, the handsome orange tabby boy of Angela and Bryce McCollough of Wilkinson, Indiana, unexpectedly passed over the Rainbow Bridge on Thursday, May 15, 2025. Mango was approximately 7 years old.

Angela and Bryce met a little 3-year-old orange tabby named "Mando" at The Animal Protection League Inc., an animal shelter located in Anderson, Indiana. After the meeting, he made his way into their hearts.

The decision was made to bring this little tabby home. He was adopted, and his official "gotcha day" was Tuesday, February 8, 2022. Angela and Bryce thought that the name “Mando” just didn’t fit his personality, and so they decided to name him “Mango".

They decided to keep his former name because, as with most children, when he got in trouble with his mom and dad, they would use his full name of “Mango Mando McCollough.”

Mango hit the jackpot after being adopted, considering he was in competition with the overflow of the many other cats and kittens at the shelter. Angela and Bryce saw something in this sweet boy, and they just knew he was meant to be part of their family. From that day forward, Mango was shown nothing but kindness, love, care, and affection. His family described his personality as having many traits, such as “smart, sweet, funny, playful, loving, attention-seeking, full of character, attitude, and sass,” but continued that he could also be a “chill, calm, gentle soul” when he knew you needed him to be, and he was always a “snuggler” and sometimes “lazy” and definitely enjoyed napping. Mango was a boy who would steal your heart, and if he didn’t like you for some reason, he would be sure to let you know.

Mango absolutely wasn’t a fan of bath time, but he loved to be groomed, especially by his fur sibling Willow. Kylia shared, “Willow and Mango would always clean each other; it made my heart melt.” She continued, “He enjoyed when I would brush him.”

He was also more of a homebody and was not a fan of going on car rides. Although Kylia shared, “He seemed to be curious on the car rides to the vet,” Angela relayed, “He just really preferred hanging around the house feeling the breeze through the windows.” Angela shared that once Mango decided he was going to sneak out and go on a little adventure outdoors. He quickly turned around and ran into the house and hid under his sister Kylia’s bed. Angela continued, “I think he knew he scared his mommy because he got out and thought he was in trouble. He didn't realize when we found him he would be greeted with tears, hugs, and kisses.”

According to Kylia, Mango enjoyed any type of treat; “anything and everything was his favorite, continuing, “He loved his treats; he would always run as soon as he heard the bag.” Angela relayed that Mango did seem to be particularly fond of snacking on Temptation treats and catnip.

Besides playing with his bestie Willow, Mango enjoyed playing with his favorite toys, his catnip-filled elephant, his toy banana, and playing with his laser light with the family.

Mango was a very handsome and photogenic boy. He knew when his mom got her camera out it was picture time, and he was always ready to pose for the camera. There were numerous happy memories made with Mango. Angela and Kylia shared a few of their favorite memories. Angela relayed that movie nights were made extra special watching Kylia, Mango, and Willow lovingly cuddling together on the carpet in front of the television.

But if Mango was not in the movie-watching mood, nobody was going to watch the movie. Mango would want the family’s entire attention and block the television screen.

Kylia added, “After about six months of having him and Willow, we were inseparable, and one of my favorite memories was them both coming to lay with me. He played next to my head, and he stayed for hours; it felt like he was watching movies with me.”

Kylia and Angela also shared memories of dressing Mango up. Kylia recalled, “I used to put shirts on him, and he’d wear them, but he’d always side-eye me.”

According to Angela in 2023 on Father’s Day, “I bought Mango a shirt that said, ‘I love my daddy, my hero,’ on it. Mango was not happy with it, and he froze like a statue and cried. He did not move, as if his legs wouldn’t work. He actually tried to chew on the electrical cords, telling us, Take these off, or I’m done. Needless to say, he loved his daddy, but not enough to wear that shirt.” Angela relayed that they will cherish these precious moments they shared with Mango.

He was a man of mystery; mysteriously, he would have Amazon packages delivered in his name from time to time. Mango was completely comfortable and knew he was loved. He had a bit of a stubborn streak. He determined that his mom and dad’s bed and pillows they slept on were actually his. With some encouragement from Angela, he would let them borrow them and sleep on them, along with him, from time to time. Over the years he spent with his family, he met many foreign exchange students, and they considered him their fur sibling as well. He has family from as far away as Italy, Thailand, Spain, and Bolivia.

Angela shared what Mango valued most in life was spending quality time with his human and fur family.

To Angela and Bryce, he was more than just a cat; he was their son, and he was loved beyond measure. Angela shared, “He was my best friend, my strength on a bad day, my reminder to breathe in a hard moment, one of my best friends.”

Although Mango loved everyone, his favorite people on this earth were the very people who rescued him. He loved his daddy, Bryce, so very much and knew he was the hero who saved him. He absolutely adored his mama Angela and spent as much time as he could with her by his side. She was his person, and he was her sweet boy.

Mango was a handsome, sweet soul. His human parents, Angela and Bryce, loved Mango so very much; he will forever remain in their hearts.

In addition to his human parents, Angela and Bryce, mourning the loss of Mango are his human sisters, Kylia Marie, Rita Pasole, and Amberleigh Frederick, and his fur siblings, Willow May, Aspen June, Blue, Zeus, and Xena. Also grieving Mango are human family members, grandparents Jay and Ronda Huffman and Brenda Hart, Aunt Mandi and Uncle Randy Perkins, cousin Dakota Jay, and special human friends Punnapat Kingsmond of Thailand, Savannah Coggins, and Alexis Williams.

Mango is preceded in death by his fur sibling, Cleopatra, who was waiting to greet Mango on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge.
