Michael "Mike" Eugene Johnson

Michael ”Mike” Eugene Johnson, age 61, of Shirley, Indiana passed away after a lengthy illness on Saturday, July 31, 2021 at his residence. He was born November 28, 1959 in Indianapolis, Indiana to; mother, Shirley (Thomas) Johnson and father, Cephus Johnson, who preceded him in death.

Mike attended Emmerich Manual High School in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1977 and after high school was employed as a truck driver and had his own business “Johnson Moving and Light HAUL” He was known as ”Lawn Mower Man”.  He also worked Security for Indianapolis Motor Speedway and was a Production Team Leader at McDonalds, until he became unable to work due to his illness.  Mike enjoyed fishing and in 1984 he lived in a town called Alaska, which was located in the region of Baja California, Mexico. He also loved music and played guitar, he was self taught and he was good at it. His favorite genre of music was Rock, his favorite classic rock bands were The Eagles, AC/DC and Aerosmith. Mike enjoyed listening to some vinyl albums a few days before he passed away. He also liked the bands: Shinedown, Godsmack and Alice In Chains and was known to have the music so loud it would rattle his windows. 

Mike was a jokester and would have everyone around him laughing and smiling. He was a character and had nicknames such as “Wrongway” and “Mikey”  He loved the homemade Chicken and Dumplings his good friend Jennifer made for him.  Mike was a Baptist and relayed this to his Hospice Chaplain during their discussions of faith.

Mike met and married Frieda Johnson. They were married for three years until she unexpectedly passed away of a heart attack. In addition to his wife, Frieda, and his parents, Mike is preceded in death by his brother, Donald Knickerbocker.

Mike is survived by his children, grandchildren, his brother, William Johnson, nephews; Aaron and William D Johnson and his niece, Chelsea Johnson. He is also survived by special friends; Rick and Jennifer Thompson. Mike also leaves behind his two beloved little dogs, Chrystal Ann and Rowdy Joe. Michael's family and friends will sadly miss him and the fun and laughter they shared, he was a good friend to those who knew and cared for him.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 7th, 2021 from 12pm-2pm with Funeral Service to follow at Liming Family Funeral Home located at 306 Main Street in Shirley, Indiana. The service will be officiated by Reverend William Sparrow. Mike unfortunately did not have Life Insurance.
