Millie Rae (Hammonds) Brown

Millie Rae Brown, age 80, passed away surrounded by her loved ones on Wednesday, January 26, 2022. She was born September 30, 1941 in London, Kentucky to the late Oscar and Rosa (Pickard) Hammonds.  After graduation, Millie made Knightstown her home and was employed at Eli Lilly and Company in Greenfield, Indiana for many years until retiring in 1998.  Millie enjoyed going back to her birthplace of London, Kentucky to see her family. She also enjoyed making beautiful quilts to share with her loved ones. She enjoyed listening to her Gospel music.  Millie was also a fun loving prankster and enjoyed being the jokester of the family.  A few years ago, you might have seen Millie cruising around in her little hot rod red convertible. She enjoyed candy and loved eating Reese Cups. Millie was a character, she had the biggest heart and would do anything for anyone. Most of all, Millie was about family. Millie loved her daughter and sons and dedicated her life to them. Millie was the most loving and caring mom and grandmother. Watching her grand and great-grandchildren grow gave her so much happiness. She loved spending time with her family and she will be missed dearly. Her family will never forget her love and will hold Millie forever in their hearts.

Left to cherish her memory are her three children, daughter, Victoria “Vicki” (Robert) Conley of Knightstown, Indiana, sons; Rodney Hammonds of Dunreith, Indiana and Brent Hammonds of Knightstown, Indiana. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Ashley (Brian) Grimes, Cheyanne (Ike) Avery, Cody (Stephanie) Conley, Rodney (Lesley) Hammonds, II, and Virginia Hammonds, 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephews. In addition to her parents, Millie is preceded in death by her stepfather, James Benge and little sister, Wanda Hammonds.

Funeral services will be held at the Knightstown Church of God located at 405 E North St, Knightstown, Indiana 46148 on Monday, January 31, 2022. 

Family and friends may call from 11:00 am until the funeral service at 1:00 pm with Pastor Bill Swallers officiating.  Pallbearers for the service will be Rodney Hammonds, Brent Hammonds, Ike Avery, Rodney Hammonds, II, Cody Conley and Anthony Conley. Burial will follow at the Dunreith Cemetery located at: 208 Rogers St, Dunreith, Indiana 47337.
