Rocky Sego Obituary

Rocky Sego, beautiful, sweet big boy of Mike, Emily and Brendon Sego, passed over the Rainbow Bridge on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 4:30 p.m. in Greenfield, Indiana.

Rocky became a part of the Sego family after he was adopted in 2015 from "ReTails”, which is a rescue group created to end the killing of animals in Indianapolis and surrounding areas. It was located at the Washington Square Mall in Indianapolis, Indiana, up until 2017. While no longer located at the Washington Square Mall, the group continues their rescue efforts by working with three Petco stores in Indianapolis to foster and adopt cats.

Rocky was a gentle, loving soul. His family described Rocky’s personality as “unique in so many ways. He was always very curious and mischievous. He was also a very vocal cat. He had no issue with telling you how he felt. He had a distinct “chirp” that he’d do if he felt happy. He loved attention, and we always gave it to him.” When asked if there were any favorite memories of Rocky that came to mind, Brendon relayed, “There are so many to choose from over the 10 years we had him as a part of our family. One thing that we always will remember was how much he enjoyed being outdoors, chasing animals that were much faster than him, lying in the grass, catching the mice and moles, and playing in the flower beds.” Brendon shared that Rocky had a favorite toy several years ago. “He had a blue shark plush toy from Walmart, and they used to put catnip around the shark. Rocky would take it around everywhere with him.” To this day they are unsure where it ended up. advising “He may have hidden it.” Brendon described Rocky as a “neat freak,” continuing that “He loved to keep himself clean. He would sit and clean himself for 20 minutes on end. The groomers would cut his hair like a lion's. That’s when you’d see the most full version of Rocky. He was a live wire when he had a lion haircut.” Brendon shared one of her favorite stories about Rocky: “One of the funniest things Rocky used to do was just before bedtime, he would make laps around the bed until he found his comfort spot. He would do it for 10 minutes on end if needed.” Rocky also had this “trot” he’d do when he got excited. He enjoyed drinks from the bathroom faucets and outside on the back end of the house. If he saw you walking that way, he’d trot or sprint back there and jump up on the counter to get a drink from the faucet. Rocky was not a fan of car rides, but being the well-behaved boy that he was, he would try and make the best of it if he had to go to the vet or to the groomer. He liked to roam around in the car or lie on his family member’s lap as they were driving. Rocky was content eating generic treats, but he absolutely loved getting bites of real chicken. Sometimes his family would feed him small pieces of it. What Brendon felt Rocky valued the most in life was “the company and presence of others. While most cats, including Rocky, loved alone time, he always got his perfect balance.” Brendon continued, “Rocky spent time with us in the living room, the kitchen, the dining room, our beds, by the pool, the garage—you name the place, and he’d be there.”

Rocky was named after the classic motion picture character Rocky Balboa, and his family also often referred to him as “Rock,” “Rocko,” or “Rocko Taco.”

Brendon shared that Rocky was friendly and was fond of all of their family members and friends. “He loved when the grandparents would stop by. He got lots of petting and belly rubs from them, especially Grandpa Sego, who always said, “Rocky is one cool cat.” Cousin Audrey was another family favorite of Rocky. Over the years Rocky loved the attention from Brendon’s friends and would often visit them in the basement when they stayed overnight.”

Rocky brought so much happiness to the Sego home. The family is heartbroken by the loss of their beloved big boy Rocky. His sweet and friendly demeanor will forever remain in their hearts. Mourning the loss of Rocky are his human parents, Emily and Mike Sego; human brother Brendon; human cousin Audrey; and human grandparents. Rocky is also survived by his older fur sibling, Katie. Brendon relayed, “Who developed a bond with Rocky over time, although they would never admit they loved each other, but they did and always looked out for one another.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Always & Furever In Our Hearts Pet Cremation in association with Liming Family Funeral Home, located in Shirley, Indiana. We are honored to serve the family of Rocky Sego.
