Rodney Jeffries Obituary

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, “paps,” and friend, Rodney Riy Jeffries, from Greenfield, Indiana, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at the age of 66. Rodney was born Saturday, March 15, 1958, in Rushville, Indiana, to the late Clarence Robert and Cleona Jeffries. Rodney attended Shelbyville High School and ultimately followed in his father’s footsteps, becoming a master carpenter and owning his own business. Rodney married his sweetheart Deborah “Debbie” Frey on Saturday, March 25, 2000, and they were just shy of celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary. Rodney and his family had a unique interest in antique bicycles. His parents once had the largest collection of antique bicycles in the United States. Rodney was a skilled unicyclist. He performed in the Cotton Bowl and Indianapolis 500 on his 11-foot-tall unicycle. Rodney was somewhat of a celebrity, appearing as a contestant on the television program “To Tell the Truth,” a classic game show where three contestants claimed to be a person with an unusual occupation or experience. One is telling the truth, and the other two are impostors. The object of the game is to try to fool the celebrity panelists into voting for the two impostors. Each wrong vote would earn the contestant money. Rodney liked the classics. He enjoyed The Andy Griffith Show, a show of sweet, simpler times, and listened to rock and roll music. Rodney was a lover of sweets. Whether it was candy, pie, or cheesecake, if it had sugar, Rodney liked it. He had a nightly routine; 10:00 was sweet snack time. Rodney was fond of the occasional Rum and Coke drink and visited the Bourbon Trails in Kentucky. Rodney loved spending time in his garden and canning the vegetables from his harvest with Debbie by his side. Rodney was a proud 30-year member of the Shelbyville Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 766, where he made many friends and memories. Rodney was a true outdoorsman and thoroughly enjoyed spending quality time in nature. He was an avid hunter who loved hunting, fishing, and just being outside. His favorite thing to do was spend quality time with his family and friends. He loved camping with his family, riding on jet skis on the lake. One of Rodney’s favorite places to vacation was at Friendship, Indiana, with his family. They had a permanent camping spot and visited faithfully twice a year. Rodney spent precious time with his children and grandchildren. He taught them the proper way to use a bow and arrow. He was so proud that his son, Cody, would often come in first place in the archery competitions at the Rendezvous Friendship Festival. Rodney experienced many things in his life, but nothing made him happier than being with those he loved or by his wonderful wife Debbie. She was the love of his life and he was hers. Together they raised a family and created so many memories that will forever be remembered. Rodney will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his extended family and friends. His kindness, love, and hard work will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. In addition to his wife Debbie, left to mourn the loss of Rodney are his children, Chad Allen, Kristen Nicole, Stephanie (Brandon) Hall, Christine Burton, Kerri (Rob) Coulter, Abby (Trey Seely) Fancher, Cody Burton, his brother, Curt Jeffries, and grandchildren, Maya, Cameron, Carson, Jada, Calvin, Robert, Hannah, Kate, Ryder, Lexi, Kayla, Brook, Clayton, and Maddie. Rodney is also survived by his best friends, hunting buddy Keith Hayes, and his Bourbon buddy Gary Branson. The family is planning a celebration of life at a later date. ~The staff of Liming Family Funeral Home are honored to serve the family of Rodney Riy Jeffries.
