Roman Scudder-Mullins of Muncie, Indiana, the big, beautiful Bernese Mountain Dog of Emily Scudder and Shannon Mullins, sibling to human brother Milo, unexpectedly crossed over the Rainbow Bridge on Thursday, September 12, 2024. Roman the pup was adopted and became part of the family in June of 2024. Roman loved his family with one exception; he did see eye to eye with Swaggle the cat. They just didn’t care for each other’s company. Roman was, as documented with most Bernese Mountain Dogs, calm and affectionate in his temperament. Berners are known to generally get along with the entire family and are particularly gentle with children. Bernese mountain dogs are a breed that in particular does well with children, as they are very affectionate. They are patient dogs that take well to children climbing over them. Though they have great energy, a Bernese will also be happy with a calm evening. They are excellent guardians. They tend to bond with one owner or family. Roman was exactly that—a devoted family companion and blessed with a sweet, affectionate nature. His family described Roman as having “the biggest heart of any dog they ever met and that he gave the warmest hugs”. Above all else, Roman was Milo’s very best friend. They were side by side, day and night. Two peas in a pod. Milo was absolutely Roman’s person. Emily expressed that just like brothers, they fought like brothers and loved like brothers. In Roman’s short time here, he connected and had an amazing bond with Milo. He loved him fiercely and unconditionally. Roman was Milo’s guardian and protector and would have followed him to the ends of the earth. The entire family is absolutely heartbroken by the unexpected, sudden loss of Roman. Roman will be patiently waiting, just on this side of heaven on Rainbow Bridge, for a joyous reunion with his beloved family. Arrangements have been entrusted to Always & Furever In Our Hearts Pet Cremation in association with Liming Family Funeral Home, located in Shirley, Indiana. We are honored to serve the family of Roman Scudder-Mullins.
