TJ Harris Obituary

TJ Harris of Wilkinson, Indiana, the 11-year-old lovable hound mix of Janet and Tom Harris, passed over the Rainbow Bridge on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, at 10:00 p.m.

TJ was found as a stray and was placed with the Greenfield Hancock Animal Management. On June 7th of 2013, TJ, known at that time as “Tom,” appeared on the Greenfield Hancock Animal Management adoption page website with his photo along with the description, “Tom is a 1-year-old mixed breed who came to the shelter as a stray from the southeast side of the county. He is good with children and will need to be neutered, microchipped, and get a rabies shot for adoption. Luckily for this boy, he hit the jackpot by finding a loving home and becoming a member of the Harris family.

Since he was already a “Tom,” Janet and Tom decided to rename him TJ for “Tom Jr. since this pup was the junior of the two Toms.

TJ enjoyed the outdoors. TJ was full of energy. He loved to run and created his own specific racetrack in the yard. In the summertime, TJ and his dog brother, Mason, loved to splash and play in the little kiddie pool that Janet and Tom bought for them.

As much as he loved playing in the water in the kiddie pool, he hated the garden hose and being rained on. Harvest time for the garden brought him his very favorite treats of cucumber and zucchini. TJ’s favorite toy was his Christmas hedgehog. TJ would not let any of the other dogs or cats near it. TJ liked to join in the fun with the cats when his family would get the laser pointer out. His family shared that TJ would do “this silly prancing step on the dot” and that “he could very much be a clown.”

TJ hated going for car rides; his dislike was likely caused by his memory of being driven to a place and abandoned as a puppy.

TJ had such a sweet disposition. He was a fun, silly boy. He loved Janet and Tom’s grandchildren, John and Eli, and got along with all the other animals.

TJ was also lovingly referred to by his family as “Hoot-N-Hinner,” “Old Soup Hound,” “In The Way TJ,” and “Grumpy” loved everyone and everyone who met TJ loved him. What TJ valued the most in his life was his human daddy Tom, a close second would be his human mom Janet followed by his favorite snoozing spot on the couch.

TJ will be sadly missed but lovingly remembered by his human parents, Janet and Tom; human sister, Kelly; Janet and Tom’s grandchildren, John and Eli; as well as dog brothers, Skampie and Mason; cat sister, Meowner; and cat brothers, Noah and Leroy. TJ was preceded in death by dog brothers Tucher, Harlee, Odis, and Dixon, and cat brother Tinker.
