Wilbur Iaria Obituary

Wilbur Iaria of Greenfield, Indiana, a fourteen-year-old beloved Staffordshire Terrier Mix of Lindsey Iaria, passed over the Rainbow Bridge at 11:15 p.m. on Tuesday, August 6, 2024. Wilbur was diagnosed with cancer a little over a year ago. Sadly, he succumbed to this nasty disease after a long and hard battle to stay by his mom's side. By her side was where he left this world. Lindsey lovingly held her sweet boy as he crossed over the Rainbow Bridge to meet his sister and brother, who were waiting to greet him. Wilbur was born in 2010. Wilbur’s journey into this world started out pretty bleak. At four weeks old, this little puppy ended up being abandoned at an animal shelter. At the time of his arrival, the local weather station reported an advisory that a winter ice storm was approaching the shelter. Lindsey just happened to be a volunteer at the shelter. She knew this little puppy would not survive if he was left behind in the shelter and the shelter lost power. Lindsey stepped up and took this little pup home with her. From that day forward, Wilbur never left Lindsey’s side. This is where their love story began. Wilbur was such a sweet, loving boy; he wanted nothing more than to help people. Wilbur tested and became CGC-certified (American Kennel Canine Good Citizen) and passed with flying colors. Wilbur continued on and became a therapy dog and a reading buddy. He was destined to do more because he enjoyed working and helping people. Lindsey then continued Wilbur's training, and Wilbur soon became her service dog. Wilbur was also a breed ambassador for bully breeds, working to show the public how wonderful bully breeds can be and to try to help dispel the myth that bully breeds are bad breeds. Lindsey and Wilbur were guest speakers at local conferences and were featured guests on the nationally syndicated television program Pet Pals TV with host Patty Spitler multiple times. Lindsey stressed that Wilbur was the inspiration for both of her businesses: her online custom dog apparel store, @WilburTies, and the training and in-home dog sitting company she started, @Sit,Stay&Sleep. Lindsey and Wilbur would always travel and set up booths at events together. Wilbur was always the perfect boy; he never met a dog that he didn’t like and didn’t like him in return. Wilbur was an asset to his community and to all of the lives he touched. Wilbur loved his fur sibling, Tilly Mae. When they met, it was like they had known each other their whole lives. Wilbur also grew to love his giant fur sister, Libby, after she got a little training and structure. Wilbur was preparing Lindsey for his departure from this world. He gave her extra love and kisses, as if he knew he was nearing the end of his journey. Wilbur loved his mama. Wilbur just wanted Lindsey beside him; just like when he was a little pup, she was always his security and his savior. With Lindsey by his side, he knew he was going to be okay, and he crossed the Rainbow Bridge in her arms. Lindsey is absolutely devastated by the loss of her sweet boy. Lindsey was grateful to have the support of her wife throughout the declining health and loss of sweet Wilbur. Wilbur will be sadly missed, but he will always be remembered and remain in the hearts of his family, who loved him immensely.
