Zelda Wagner Obituary

Zelda Wagner, of Greenfield, Indiana, age 10, a beautiful tortoiseshell girl belonging to Claire Wagner, passed over the Rainbow Bridge at 3:00 a.m. on Friday, October 17, 2025.

Zelda was born on December 14, 2014, in Georgia. It just so happened to be the same day and month as her mother’s birthday.

She actually joined as a member of the family in early February of 2015. According to Claire, “Zelda was born in a barn in Georgia to feral cats. She decided she didn't want to be feral and came onto my porch and adopted me as her momma in early February of 2015.” Claire lovingly referred to her as her “Georgia Peach.”

Zelda was a tortoiseshell, which are historically known for having a variety of personalities, including being sassy, independent, and loyal. Torties are sometimes called the "divas" of the feline world. They are known for being spunky and independent, and they know what they want. Zelda started out life with exactly that described "tortitude," personality. Claire described her personality as “sweet as could be but definitely tortoiseshell through and through.”

Claire shared what she loved the most about Zelda: “Her soft meows, her tortoiseshell attitude, waking up to her right next to me, her always laying on my chest, her coming when I whistled for her, her soft fur, her big fluffy tail, her one little white whisker, her fluffy back legs I called her fancy pants, how she shared a birthday with my mom, how she was so tiny she could walk between the bars of the baby gates, how she never left my side, especially when I was pregnant with my son, and how patient and loving she was with my son. She was my soulmate cat.”

Claire recalled her favorite memory of Zelda was “her always lying on my belly when I was pregnant with my son and how even when he'd kick, she'd refuse to get up and how patient and sweet she was with my son.”

Zelda was a low-maintenance girl who enjoyed playing with anything that had a string attached to it.

Zelda’s favorite food was wet cat food, and treats were small licks of vanilla ice cream when Claire would eat it.

What Claire felt Zelda valued most in her life was her son and cuddles.

Zelda was true to her tortie personality because she definitely wasn’t a fan of going on car rides or being groomed. Claire relayed, “I have the scars to prove it.”

Although Zelda, whose official name was “Zelda Hellcat Tanooki,” also went by “Zelda Belda,” “Georgia Peach,” and “The Perpetual Kitten,” and "Baby Girl," she was particularly attached to Claire and Zelda’s human sibling, who she loved, Tommy, and she absolutely loved everyone. She never hesitated to snuggle and nap with anyone who was in her presence. Claire shared the great bond and love between her and Zelda. “She always came when I whistled for her. It didn't matter what she was doing; she'd come running the second she heard it.”

In addition to Claire, Zelda will be lovingly remembered by her human sibling, brother, Tommy; Claire’s boyfriend, Mike; his children, Zane and Paige; fur siblings Soxxyboy, Spike, Vada, Kittykitty, and Duchess; Claire’s ex-husband, Matt, and his cat, Dexter; and Claire’s stepdaughter’s cat, Fluffy.
