Roger and Lori met when they were both attendants in a wedding. Roger was living in Columbus Ohio and Lori in Greenfield Ohio. Having never met before, they were surprised to find they grew up just a few miles apart, attended rival high schools, attended the same college and graduated the same year. After a little over a year of dating they were married, August 18, 2001 in a little white church in Fruitdale, Ohio. Roger and Lori returned from their honeymoon a week later to find that Roger's beloved Grandfather had passed the day prior to their return. They were faced as a new couple to deal with this profound loss but were inspired by the professionalism and care the Funeral Staff provided the family.

Along with America Our Lives Changed

The following month the nation suffered the biggest tragedy on American soil with 9/11. Roger had been a commercial electrician for approximately 15 years and following the attack, the construction business took a nose dive in our area and Roger was laid off for the first time in his career. Roger and Lori struggled, as did many people, with an unsure economy. Roger's job became very unstable. Roger returned to work but was restless upon his return. He wanted to do something more rewarding with his life and set a good example for his two daughters, Lyndsey and Addie.

Moving Forward

A Union Electrician for approximately 15 years, Roger decided he wanted to change his career and chose funeral science because he was interested in making a difference to people in their time of need. He felt it was a calling from God. Lori fully supported Roger's decision to return to school, working full time as the main income provider to support the family. Lori joins Roger in his dream to help others. Roger obtained his Bachelor Degree in Mortuary Science and was hired full time by OR Woodyard as the main embalmer and crematory operator for the company. Roger worked until resigning January of 2012 to pursue his dream of buying his own Funeral Home. The staff at OR Woodyard offered their best wishes for Roger after purchasing the Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home located in Shirley Indiana.
